New technologies are continuing to lead the charge when it comes to the evolution taking place in the global meetings and events industry.
A flurry of new gadgets, gizmos, apps and platforms are coming to market, with everything from virtual reality to robotics having a hand in shaping the very essence of events.
Already a major focus at IBTM at the end of the year, 2018’s show circuit looks set to be abuzz with the latest innovations and the practical ways planners can use them to transform their approach.
Forward-thinking messaging solutions start-up Sciensio has been one to watch in recent years, and at IBTM in November, the firm scooped the IBTM World Tech Watch Award. The firm impressed the judges at the Barcelona show with its Concierge Eventbot.
The clever chatbot offers dedicated events app features in a text messaging experience, supported by cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Concierge EventBot can give attendees the latest event information, including agendas, schedules, floor plans and speakers information, in a conversational style that can be adapted to the specific brand voice of an event. It can also send real-time updates during events, with attendees able to control the notifications they receive based on the preferences they set.
Other awards were given out during IBTM for SharedXP Limited, a smart engagement platform, and Conference Pulse, a vast data platform offering intelligence on conferences, speakers, sponsors and much more.
Recognising the continued importance new technologies within the meetings and events industry, Corbin Ball, Chair of IBTM World Technology and Innovation Watch Judging Committee, said: “We had an incredibly strong field of entries this year, making it a challenging task to decide on the winner.
“Sciensio and its Concierge Eventbot has proven great tenacity and innovation in helping the events industry stay ahead of the curve with regards to effective customer engagement, sitting at the heart of every successful business in this industry and beyond. Sciensio and its Concierge Eventbot highlight two important event tech trends: the emergence of artificial intelligence to provide better and more efficient services to attendees in the form of chatbots – a direct and very useful means of providing event information.”
Kerry Prince, Portfolio Director, IBTM, added: “Technology plays a pivotal role in the evolution of the MICE industry and we’re delighted to have a very strong platform to showcase this, with our Innovation Zone. We’re in a great position to recognise and support businesses with technological innovations and services that have a real benefit to the meetings and events industry.”
The Tech Watch Award is the industry’s longest-standing award of its kind, and is extremely well recognised across the MICE industry.
