Placing a focus on medical events, SECB has secured a number of major business events for the years ahead. On the calendar is the International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM) and the International Congress on Aviation and Space Medicine, both taking place this year; the third World Congress of the International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO) in 2011; the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) in 2012, and the World Congress on Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology in 2015.
"Singapore's bid for the 2012 World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) showed a level of professionalism and dedication which impressed our selection committee. The team understood our needs, demonstrated a significant collaboration with the host organisation and the chosen venue, and managed to gather the support of many local constituencies. The style and manner which the SECB and all the bidding partners approached this process gave us confidence about the level of service and attention that we could expect,” says Laurence Verhagen, head of conference and meetings of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), which is responsible for the WCTOH bid process.
Non-medical events have also been secured. Singapore is set to host the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) Conference and the 13th Conference of the Associated Research Centers for Urban Underground Space both in 2012, and the 15th Asian Chemical Congress in 2013.
Meanwhile, this year will see Singapore host a new international event for the performing arts industry. Live! Singapore 2010 will incorporate both a conference and an international trade fair. The event is being held at Resorts World Singapore June 8-11.
In October, Singapore will host ITB Asia, a B2B travel trade show for the Asian outbound market. ITB Asia is organised by Messe Berlin, the company responsible for ITB Berlin, the world’s largest travel trade show.
2010 will also see Singapore host the 77th UFI Congress at the Marina Bay Sands. The three-day gathering of the global association of the exhibition industry takes place from November 10 to 13.
