With luxury meeting facilities and accommodation, Doha’s latest hotel, which opened in February, is causing quite a stir. Renzo Cavagliotti, General Manager, answers our questions…
What type of meetings/events/conferences can you help me to organise at your hotel?
The Events Centre offers unrivalled facilities in a contemporary setting, boasting a pillarless Grand Ballroom stretching 1,015 square metres and an additional four meeting rooms. We can cater to groups of all sizes. Functions in the Grand Ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 people.
How flexible is your meeting and event space?
The Ballroom and four meeting rooms can be divided into nine breakout rooms. There’s also an ultra-modern business centre with all the latest equipment and services.
I am looking for an event with a ‘wow’ factor – what can you offer that other venues in Doha don’t?
The Grand Ballroom can host any kind of event and, with a ceiling height of eight metres, it provides a ‘stand out’ venue. The architecture of the Events Centre itself, with its mashrabiah clad exterior and set across two levels, provides a stunning aspect.
What technology and creative input can the hotel offer?
We have dedicated event planners with different areas of expertise to get the utmost out of their event. State-of-the-art technology ensures each event is at the cutting edge.
I am considering organising a meeting that involves a culinary experience; any suggestions? We have the flexibility and creativity to create bespoke menus for all our clients’ needs. Our ‘local origins’ menu options include regional dishes or specialised local ingredients for which the destination is known. Additionally, our ‘world kitchen’ menu options leverage our global know-how to create authentic dishes from around the world. For all of our menus, we source ingredients locally where possible, with the emphasis on fresh and natural produce.
Some of my delegates will bring their families along. What facilities and services does the hotel offer and what activities can you suggest for them in Doha?
The hotel has a state-of-the-art health and fitness club on Level 46, which provides stunning views across West Bay and the Doha skyline, along with an open-air rooftop swimming pool. There are also eight restaurants and lounges, including Strata (Doha’s highest dining and lounge experience serving purely chilled seafood), restaurant The Square offering something for all the family, plus Criollo, our own chocolatier where all treats are handmade by the pastry chefs and live chocolate making takes place every day. Our expert InterContinental Concierge team has acquired a wealth of knowledge of everything to see and do in Doha and can recommend the best places to visit based on guests’ interests. “Must-see” places include Katara Cultural Village with an amphitheatre, promenade and the golden mosque, the traditional Souq Waqif for the chance to soak up the Qatari culture, a stroll along the Corniche and a trip to the Museum of Islamic Art. There are also shopping malls within walking distance of the hotel.
In a nutshell, why is Intercontinental Doha - The City the venue for me?
It is ideally located in the heart of the exclusive and bustling West Bay area amid the financial and diplomatic district. The hotel offers spacious, modern and stylish accommodation in 349 rooms and suites, as well as 176 Residence Suites of one to four bedrooms. There is the choice of six restaurants and two lounges to suit different tastes. The choice and flexibility of space for all types of meeting or event provides the luxury of choice when considering the ideal venue.
