Meeting Morocco

Where Europe and Africa meet, Morocco is a ideal meeting and incentive destination offering up a unique array of attractions and business services, as Sarah Campbell discovers

Morocco, located in the north westerly corner of Africa, boasts both an Atlantic and Mediterranean coast, offers more than 300 days of sunshine a year, and acts as a meeting point between the two continents of Europe and Africa.

Offering a unique mix of towering mountain peaks, imperial cities, haunting desert dunes and picturesque seaside villages, Morocco is a diverse destination ideal for large or small incentive groups.

Add to that the fact that the country is the fifth largest economy in Africa, and Morocco’s business credentials also stack up to make it an ideal meeting or convention destination.

In 2008, the country attracted eight million tourist arrivals, a seven percent increase over 2007. The Morocco National Tourist Office (MNTO) expects growth of five percent in 2009, with ambitions of increasing tourism arrivals to up to 10 million by 2010 through its Plan Azur Vision 2010.

The Vision 2010 programme also includes adding 160,000 new hotel beds, bringing the total national capacity to 230,000 beds. The country also hopes to create 600,000 new tourism sector jobs.
